| | Everyone liked the front door but it had to go. Door was cracking and frame was shifting. Not very good in the Winter; drafty... |
| | Prior owners built the deck over the bulkhead. There was an extremely heavy "trap door" that could be removed if you wanted to put things in the basement. |
| | Unfortunately the deck covering didn't help the rust problem. Notice how tight the opening is. We couldn't replace the bulkhead because the deck was right against it. |
| | The step down into the basement was quite steep from the deck. The bulkhead was flaking rust everytime it was opened. |
| | We had woodpecker problems over the years and the corner of the house had a few bad patch jobs. |
| | 09/07 - Day 1 Dumpster was delivered and the deck demolition started! |
| | Back door looks quite different with no deck. |
| | This is what the bulkhead looked like without a deck wrapped around it. |
| | And the dumpster was practically full with all the deck debris! |
| | 09/12 - Week 1 Basic framing for mudroom started. Progress was delayed because we didn't get the building permit until 09/09. The building inspector specified "bigfoot" bases for the concrete pilings. |
| | Kenny had to dig three big/deep holes to accommodate the "bigfoot" base. The original base they got was square and would have required bigger holes! Luckily they found round ones at a local store. |
| | I put a smiley basketball in to show perspective on the size of the hole. |
| | 09/13 - Day 4 Sides and roof frame on mudroom. Concrete pilings were pored after building inspector approved holes. |
| | 09/16 - Week 2 Great progress! Small deck is attached to mudroom, roof was completed and siding was started. |
