Ingredients
  2 1/4 cups flour
  1 teaspoon baking soda
  1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter (2 sticks) softened
3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  3/4 cup granulated sugar
  1 teaspoon vanilla
  2 eggs
2 cups Nestle semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (if omitted add 1 to 2 tbsp flour)
Beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy; blend in eggs and vanilla. Gradually add combined flour, soda and salt; mix well. Stir in chips and nuts. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
Bake at 375 degrees for 9 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on cookie sheet about 3 minutes; remove cookies to wire rack to cool thoroughly.
Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
